Lovrec is situated close by the old roadway that goes from Pula to Buje, close to the cross road for Porec, about 39 km distant from Smrikve. It is a charming village with a powerful presence of Venetian's architecture components. Lovrec was a crucial Venetian military command base for the continental area of Istria.

Bordered by smooth and picturesque viewpoints and tended by a moderate climate, this village, established back in ancient times, is really a spot well worth checking out. Known as the town of 9 towers, encircled by the town wall structures and the historical pillar of shame at its plaza. Lovrec was once the center of military management while these days it is developing as an interesting traveler destination. According to sources in this area, there were once more than 35 churches, of which just a few survived while in many fields forgotten ruins of the churches can be found as a memory of times gone by.

  • The church of St. Lawrence (the patron saint of the village) is located at the local cemetery. The church of St. Lawrence is definitely from the 8th century and among the oldest buildings of this kind in this area with an enormous Romanesque campanile with bifora on top - from the 12th to 13th century. It was the Lovreč's first parish church.
  • Basilica of St. Martin - early Romanesque temple, developed during the 10th century. In the left apse frescoes have been preserved from the 11th century. The church kept the organ from the 18th century.The stone altar with a sarcophagus having the artifacts of St. Corona and St. Victor dates back to the 16th century while the sarcophagus was carried from the Church of Sv. Sophia in Dvigrad in 1365.
  • The church of Sv. Blaz - sanctified in 1460, it is made from cut stone and covered with stone slabs. The walls are painted with frescoes.
  • Benedictine church of St. Dorligo - only a boundary wall structure with windows has been preserved.
  • Church of St. Lucy - constructed in the 16th century.
