City of Rovinj is mentioned for the first time in VII century. History of Rovinj is very long and dynamic. Many nations had ownership of this city, like Roman and Byzantine empire, Lombards and Franks. At the end of XIII century, city flourished, but that wasn't the case when city was under Habsburg rule. After gaining the independence in 1991, Rovinj became important tourist center.

Beside its important historical riches, Rovinj also has cultural riches. Art is very important in this artistic center of Istria, so, because of that, numerous manifestations are being held here every year. Some of those are "Artistic colony Rovinj" and "Grišlja". Amongst other manifestations, few worth mentioning are international pop festival, St. Euphemia's day (city of Rovinj protector from XVI century), Rovinj summer festival, and Regatta. You can also visit numerous local museums (Museum of city of Rovinj, House of Batan).

Basilica St. Euphemia is most important religious simbol of Rovinj, and one of the most important religious monuments in whole Europe. Its construction begun in 1725. And it lasted for 11 years. Nowadays, this wonderful baroque building is unique architectural monument of whole region. Most important relic in basilica is macrophage with the body of St. Euphemia. Thousands of foreign pilgrims arrive here every year to pay the tribute.

Califfi palace is most valuable monument built in Venetian style. Nowadays, museum is located in this building. It was established in 1954., and, beside the permanent set up, museum has great halls suitable for numerous exhibitions and other cultural events. Significant collection of archaeological remains and arts. Family museum Hutterot is situated in beautiful ancient building.

Old house used to belong to local forester , and now is rebuilt, so its old shine is visible again.
